
Since the early 20th century, Zenith embarked on its global expansion, and India was no exception to the reach of the Le Locle-based brand. With the support of its London subsidiary, the Zenith Watch Co., the brand began exporting timepieces to India as early as 1914. The introduction of the new alarm pocket-watch in 1916 was highlighted in Indian newspapers through advertisements. Notably, Indira Nehru, who later served as Prime Minister of India from 1966 to 1977, presented a sterling silver version of this timepiece to her friend Mahatma Gandhi.
